Syrian Astrophysicist & President of Madani


Rim Turkmani is a Syrian-born astrophysicist. She is currently Research Fellow at London School of Economics and a Dorothy Hodgkin Research Fellow of the Royal Society.

Rim gained her BSc in Electrical Engineering at the University of Damascus, then moved to Sweden to study for a Masters in physics at Chalmers University, where she also gained a PhD in Astrophysics

Rim is a civil society figure who founded several Syrian related organisations such as the Syrian Women in the UK organization and the Rose Trust – a 7 year old UK based charity that supports development in Syria.

Rim is co-founder of Building the Syrian State Movement for peaceful change in Syria and more recently the founder of Madani; an organisation promoting Syrian civil society as a vital means to achieving peace and stability as well as modern state building.
