Engineer and Entrepreneur
Hind is the founder and CEO of Instabeat –previously Butterfleye, an award winning start-up developing a heads-up display for swimmers to monitor their workouts while they are training. She had the idea while training with the American University of Beirut’s swimming varsity team, where she graduated in Mechanical Engineering. Instabeat won the 3rd prize at the Stars of Science competition (2010) and 1st prize at the MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab Business Plan competition (2012).
In 2012, Hind was selected as one of the top 5 Pan Arab innovators under 35 by MIT Technology Review, a Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum, and a fellow at the INK conference in association with TED. Her work has been featured on TED, WIRED UK, WSJ and Quantified Self.
A self-tracking engineer, Hind is a big believer in the power of technology to improve quality of life and to increase health awareness. As a former Lebanese swimming champion and a keen runner and yoga practitioner, Hind combines her expertise in competitive sports with her expertise in engineering, to create high-tech innovative tools that track and improve an athlete’s performance and well being.
She is an active member of the Quantified Self organization, and the founder of the Quantified Self – Beirut Chapter, a pioneer in the movement’s growth in the Middle East. In a country with little health awareness, she is organizing community meetings in order to introduce the concept of self-knowledge and self-quantification to increase the quality of life.
Hind featured on the BBC 100 list as one of the women to ‘take notice of now and to watch in future’.
