Eastern Women in Western Media
Eastern women belong to a culture whose oral traditions have been honed generation after generation, making them amongst the most vocal and eloquent people in the world, yet the colour and range of their views is often lost by the time it reaches Western ears. Mesmerised by tales of oppression and the veil, we are missing a much bigger story.
Civil society in some parts of the region is growing faster than ever. The most striking example of this dynamic and inspirational change is the ever more confident voices of a growing number of Eastern women, both in the region and elsewhere.
